She is  grounded by reverence for regional nature, by a matriarchal culture in a patriarchal lineage. Raised in her green-eyed mother’s green-thumbed weekends tending to a lush landscape in a modest yard, Kelly came to appreciate all the colors and critters her small eyes could take, and fingers could touch. An endless sky and water were given to her going to the Atchafalaya Basin other weekends, hunting and

fishing with her dad, meandering, never lost, in the vastness. These formative years seep through beautifully in all of her work.
